AC2620 Genuinel IFM Electronic AS-i Module IP65 AC2620 New In Box

AC2620 Genuinel IFM Electronic AS-i Module IP65 AC2620 New In Box

PRODUCT DETAILS

Product Description

IFM Electronic AC2620 — AS-Interface Universal Module, 4 × Pt100 Analog Inputs, IP65

Temperature measurement across a distributed field network used to mean running individual signal cables from every Pt100 sensor back to an analog input card in the control cabinet. The AC2620 changes that equation. This ifm electronic AS-Interface module puts four Pt100 temperature inputs directly on the AS-i bus, transmitting 16-bit resolved temperature data to the master over a single two-wire flat cable — along with power for the module itself.

The result is a clean, compact field installation with significantly reduced wiring compared to conventional analog marshalling, and full temperature monitoring capability right where the sensors are.

Genuine ifm electronic, new in box, ready to ship.

Parameter Configuration — What the P-Bits Control

The AC2620's behavior is adjustable through four parameter bits settable from the AS-i master:

  • P0 — A/D converter filter: selects 50 Hz or 60 Hz noise rejection to match local mains frequency. Choosing the correct filter suppresses mains-induced interference on the sensor cables.
  • P1, P2 — Peripheral fault coding: configures how sensor faults (open circuit, out-of-range) are reported back to the master.
  • P3 — Pt100 wiring mode: switches between 2-wire and 3-wire RTD connection. 3-wire mode compensates for lead resistance, giving better accuracy over longer sensor cable runs.

All four bits can be written from the AS-i master during operation, which means the module can be reconfigured without disconnecting or replacing hardware.

IP65 Field Mounting — No Control Cabinet Required

Most Pt100 analog input cards live inside control cabinets, protected by the enclosure they're mounted in. The AC2620 is rated IP65 — dust-tight and jet-water resistant — which means it mounts directly in the field, at the point where the temperature sensors are located. Combined with the AS-i flat cable's insulation displacement connection technology, a field installation can be completed without cutting and stripping individual sensor cables for long runs back to the panel.

The module mounts via the AS-i interface onto FC (flat cable) lower parts, which are the ifm field wiring base units that provide the physical AS-i cable connection and sensor terminal interface. The upper module body — the AC2620 — connects to this lower part via contact pins, so the lower base remains wired in place if the upper module needs to be swapped.

16-Bit Resolution: What It Delivers in Practice

At 16-bit resolution with 0.1°C per count, the AC2620 resolves temperature differences of one-tenth of a degree across a measurement span of over 1,000°C. For most industrial temperature monitoring tasks — reactor vessel walls, heat exchanger outlets, oven zones, pipe surface temperatures — this level of resolution far exceeds what analog 4–20 mA transmitters typically provide after digitization, without the added cost of a dedicated transmitter per measurement point.

Where the AC2620 Gets Used

The combination of IP65 protection, Pt100 compatibility, and AS-Interface connectivity places this module in a specific set of applications:

  • Multi-zone temperature monitoring in industrial ovens and dryers
  • Heat exchanger and process pipe surface temperature measurement
  • Plastic extruder barrel and die temperature feedback
  • Food processing equipment with multiple temperature measurement points
  • Pharmaceutical mixing and fermentation vessel monitoring
  • HVAC plant room temperature data collection over AS-i networks
  • Any AS-i system that needs distributed Pt100 sensing in the field

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What type of temperature sensor does the AC2620 accept?

A: The module accepts Pt100 RTD (Resistance Temperature Detector) sensors only. It does not accept thermocouples, 4–20 mA transmitters, or voltage inputs. Four independent Pt100 channels are available, each configurable for 2-wire or 3-wire connection via parameter bit P3.

Q: What is the temperature measurement range?

A: The AC2620 measures from −200°C to +850°C, covering cryogenic cold utility lines through to high-temperature furnace or kiln applications. Resolution is 0.1°C per count across the full range.

Q: What is the difference between 2-wire and 3-wire Pt100 connection on this module?

A: In 2-wire mode, the lead resistance of the sensor cable is included in the measurement, which introduces a systematic temperature offset that grows with cable length. In 3-wire mode, the module compensates for lead resistance by measuring it separately, improving accuracy over longer cable runs. The wiring mode is selected per-module using parameter bit P3, settable from the AS-i master.

Q: How is the module powered?

A: The AC2620 draws its operating power entirely from the AS-Interface bus, consuming a maximum of 80 mA from the AS-i supply. No additional auxiliary supply is required. The sensor excitation current for all four Pt100 inputs is also supplied from the AS-i bus.

Q: What AS-i profile does the AC2620 use?

A: The module uses AS-i profile S-7.3, which is the standard analog data profile for AS-Interface. It transmits 16-bit analog values for each channel to the AS-i master.

Q: Does the AC2620 support IR addressing?

A: Yes. IR (infrared) addressing is supported, which allows the module's AS-i address to be set without physical access to the address switch — useful when the module is already mounted in a hard-to-reach location.

Q: What lower part (base unit) is required to mount the AC2620?

A: The AC2620 mounts onto ifm FC (flat cable) lower parts, which provide the AS-i flat cable connection and field terminal wiring. The correct lower part must be selected based on the cable routing direction and terminal type required for the sensor connections. The cage clamp terminals on the AC2620 handle the direct sensor wiring.

Q: What does "New in Box" mean for this listing?

A: The unit is factory-new, genuine ifm electronic manufacture, in original unopened packaging — not refurbished, not previously installed, and not cosmetically repackaged surplus stock.
