1734-TB — POINT I/O 8-Terminal Screw-Clamp Mounting Base
The 1734-TB is the standard two-piece terminal base for the POINT I/O system, providing eight screw-clamp terminals on a removable terminal block (RTB) that separates from the DIN-rail mounting base. Every POINT I/O module requires a terminal base to mount and wire into the system, and the 1734-TB is the most widely used option across the platform's standard digital and analog I/O modules.

Two-Piece Design and Why It Matters in the Field
The POINT I/O terminal base architecture splits into a fixed mounting base and a removable terminal block. Field wiring lands on the RTB, which can be unplugged from the base along with the I/O module while the base itself stays bolted to the DIN rail with the wiring undisturbed. This is the practical advantage of the 1734-TB over a one-piece base design: replacing a faulted I/O module doesn't mean re-landing eight wires — the RTB simply comes off with the old module and goes back on with the new one.
Because the base also carries the POINTBus backplane connection and the field power bus pass-through, it does more than just provide wiring terminals — it's the physical link in the chain that lets adjacent I/O modules share both logic communication and field power continuity along the DIN rail, mounted horizontally or vertically without any derating difference between orientations.
FAQ
Q: Is the removable terminal block (RTB) ordered separately from the base?
No. The 1734-TB ships as a complete assembly with the matching RTB included — a separate RTB only needs to be ordered if a spare is wanted in addition to the one that ships with the base.
Q: Can this base be used with thermocouple input modules?
No. Thermocouple modules require the 1734-TBCJC base, which includes the cold junction compensation sensor needed for accurate thermocouple measurement — the standard 1734-TB does not include this feature.
Q: Does the 1734-TB support module replacement while the system is powered?
Yes. The platform supports Removal and Insertion Under Power (RIUP), and Auto Device Replacement (ADR) restores the configuration automatically when a module is swapped — both features rely on this style of removable terminal base.
Q: What's the difference between the 1734-TB and the spring-clamp 1734-TBS?
Both provide the same 8-terminal, two-piece design with identical electrical ratings — the difference is purely the wire termination method. Screw-clamp terminals on the TB require a screwdriver to tighten; spring-clamp terminals on the TBS use a tool-actuated lever for faster installation and better resistance to loosening from vibration.
