PRODUCT DETAILS
1734-IR2E — POINT I/O Enhanced 2-Channel RTD/Resistance Input Module
The 1734-IR2E is an enhanced 2-channel RTD input module for the POINT I/O platform, offering finer resolution and faster step response than the standard RTD module in the same family. It reads single-ended, non-isolated resistance signals up to 220 Ω, supporting 100 Ω Pt385 RTDs as well as direct resistance wiring, with selectable output in Celsius, Fahrenheit, Kelvin, Rankine, or a custom mV scale.

Higher Resolution and Faster Response Than the Standard RTD Module
Where the standard POINT I/O RTD module covers a broader 0–600 Ω range with 9.5 mΩ/count resolution, the 1734-IR2E narrows the range to 0–220 Ω in exchange for substantially finer resolution at 2.4 mΩ/count — a meaningful improvement for applications where small temperature changes need to be resolved precisely, such as tight process temperature control loops or quality-sensitive thermal monitoring. The narrower range trades flexibility for precision, so the application's sensor type and expected resistance span should be confirmed against the 220 Ω ceiling before specifying this module over the standard variant.
Step response down to 6 ms at the fastest filter setting is also notably quicker than the standard module's slowest configuration — relevant for processes where temperature can change quickly enough that measurement lag itself becomes a control problem, rather than just a reporting delay.
FAQ
Q: Can this module be used with a standard 100 Ω Pt385 RTD sensor?
Yes. 100 Ω Pt385 is the supported RTD type on this module — it's a common, widely available sensor type for industrial temperature measurement.
Q: What happens if the connected sensor's resistance exceeds 220 Ω?
A resistance value above the module's 220 Ω range will register as an over-range condition rather than a valid reading — verify the expected operating resistance of the sensor stays within range before installation, particularly at the high end of the temperature span being measured.
Q: Is this module hazardous-location rated?
Yes, it carries certification for Zone 2 / Class I Division 2 classified locations when installed per the applicable requirements — verify the specific certification scope against the installation's classification before relying on this rating.
Q: What terminal base is compatible with this module?
Standard 1734-TB (screw-clamp) or 1734-TBS (spring-clamp) 8-terminal bases are compatible, as are the one-piece -TOP/-TOPS variants. The 12-terminal -TB3/-TOP3 bases use a different pin arrangement and are not compatible.
