PRODUCT DETAILS
2094-BSP2 — Kinetix 6000 Shunt Module, 200W, 230/460V
The 2094-BSP2 is a supplementary shunt module for the Kinetix 6000 multi-axis servo platform, mounting on the system's power rail to add 200W of additional regenerative energy dissipation capacity beyond what the Integrated Axis Module (IAM) or Axis Module (AM) provides internally. It connects to an external shunt resistor and a thermal switch, and supports both 230V and 460V drive voltage classes from the same module.

Adding Shunt Capacity When the Built-In Resistor Runs Out
Every IAM and AM module in a Kinetix 6000 system has its own internal shunt resistor for dissipating regenerative braking energy onto the DC bus. In multi-axis systems with frequent or high-inertia deceleration across several axes simultaneously, the combined internal shunt capacity can be exceeded — the bus voltage rises faster than the internal resistors can bleed it off, risking an overvoltage fault. The 2094-BSP2 adds a dedicated 200W of supplementary capacity specifically for this scenario, mounted to the right of the last AM module on the same power rail.
Only one 2094-BSP2 can be mounted per power rail, and it must be installed to the right of the last AM module — only slot-filler modules are permitted further right. It cannot be used on a power rail with a follower IAM module, since follower IAMs disable internal shunt resistance across the rail in that configuration. When paired with a specific compatible IAM type, the partner IAM's own internal shunt resistor is disabled in favor of the BSP2, while shunt resistors on adjacent AM modules remain active.
FAQ
Q: Can more than one 2094-BSP2 be installed on the same power rail for even more shunt capacity?
No. Only one 2094-BSP2 shunt module is permitted per power rail. If more shunt capacity is needed beyond what this module and an external shunt resistor provide, the system design should be re-evaluated rather than attempting to stack multiple modules.
Q: Does the 2094-BSP2 work with a follower IAM configuration?
No. The module cannot be mounted on a power rail that includes a follower IAM, since the follower IAM configuration disables internal shunt resistance across the rail in a way that's incompatible with the BSP2's operation.
Q: Is an external shunt resistor required, or does the module include its own?
An external shunt resistor connects via the module's 3-pin wiring plug — the 200W rating refers to the module's dissipation capacity through that external resistor, which is specified and connected separately.
Q: What does the thermal switch connection protect against?
The thermal switch wiring monitors the external shunt resistor's temperature, providing a fault signal if the resistor overheats — protecting against sustained overload conditions that could otherwise damage the resistor or create a fire risk.
