Copper + Fiber in One Device
The hybrid port configuration solves a specific architectural problem: local devices at a panel node connect via copper, while the connection to a distant panel, building section, or main switch room goes over fiber. - High-EMI environments: drives, welders, and arc furnaces generate electromagnetic interference that degrades copper Ethernet signals on long cable runs. Fiber is immune to EMI — no induced noise, no signal degradation, regardless of what runs adjacent to the fiber cable.
- Ground potential difference between panels: copper Ethernet requires a shared ground reference between connected panels. When two panels have different ground potentials (common in large facilities with multiple distribution panels), copper connections can inject ground loop currents into the network. Fiber has no ground path — it bridges panels with different potentials safely and without network interference.
